Maddie and John’s day mirrored their personalities: vibrant, fun, and effortlessly cool. They drew inspiration from Palm Springs aesthetics with loud florals and colorful motifs, but made it very them and very Austin.
Musically, Maddie and John are fans of indie rock, folk, country, and alternative genres. Challenge accepted. We started the prelude music with my husband creating folky instrumental soundscapes on a rubber bridge guitar. They had a small number of people walking in the ceremony – just the officiant, groom, best man, maid of honor, Maggie and her father – so we decided on one song for everyone to walk down to. Maggie picked a song by one of her favorite bands, “Real Thing” by Sun June. It was so much fun creating this custom arrangement and I honestly love doing just one song for shorter processionals like this. It really allows us to build intensity throughout the song, bringing in peaks and valleys in a really special way. Plus you get to hear even more of your favorite song! Finally, we closed out the ceremony with “All Your’n” – Tyler Childers and they were husband and wife!
As the ceremony space was transformed for the reception, we transitioned into one of The Line Hotel’s stunning rooms for cocktail hour. Guests sipped drinks, snapped photos, and soaked it all in while we leaned into all the indie vibes – playing tunes like “When You Love Somebody” by Fruit Bats, “Cigarette Daydreams” by Cage the Elephant, “First Day of My Life” by Bright Eyes, and of course, some more Tyler Childers.
Candlelight twinkled, lush florals filled the dinner tables, and the evening unfolded into a packed dance floor and one hell of a great night. We’re so grateful to have been part of such a special day!
